Spinning wheels, turning shafts, a collection of gears,
all en-meshed in some task, that's defined by design.
"To what purpose?" he asks, taking note of the years,
which have sped by so fast, without pause, as have mine.

Seems some lever's been thrown, or, some switch been engaged,
that connects to a place that I'd much rather be.
Guess, the "Tinkerer's" damned, as he fritters and wastes
too much time keeping track of such things, foolishly.

"To what purpose?" he asks, as he tinkers some more,
and, defines by design what such questions explore.

a turn of the wrench
a tighten of screw
the tinkerer thinks of her
swearing anew:

"Damn ye the wench"
he's humming the blues
the tinkerer thinks of her--
she is his muse.

You've inspired me, m'friend.

Happiest holidays, Doc-lovie.

ThisDiamond, iliana, alli4000, Earth Angel,
Decaflame, and Enchantress.
Thank you all so much, your kind thoughts and comments are always appreciated, perhaps now more than ever. My father, who was great at many things,( but not much of a poet ), passed away early this morning. He will be fondly remembered, and , I would like to think, that in some way, a part of him will carry on. In the spirit of the season, I wish you all nothing but the very best, and, I'm sure he would echo that sentiment. Be well,
Doc

Dear Doc,
No matter what the circumstance, the loss of a Dad is mighty.  All prayers and blessings to you and your loved ones, and I hope that the peace of this season carries your father in angels arms.
Hugs,
TD

ThisDiamond, serenity, Martie,
Thank you all so much. My father lived a good, long, life, and, accomplished much
while he was here. My condolences to those who have lost a parent (or both). If you are at all like me, we still have questions.
Who do we ask when those best qualified to answer are no longer around?
Please excuse the obvious sentiment attached to this. Write it off as " seasonal disfunction ", or some other abberation.
Be well, my sincere wishes for a happy holiday and New Year.
Doc
