I can still see Abraham counting his precious sheep among the blood-red flowers of dawn his eyes filled with skekels as he pushed us into strange pastures I can still see my precious daughters as that bastard Lot cast them to the mob beneath the blood-red sky the towers of Gommorah rang with their screams all I ever wanted was a warm place to sleep and food for my little girls all I got was fire and brimstone ten honest men would have save us? I haven't met ten honest men in my life much less in this place don't look back the angels said well hell, what would you expect a woman to do? if you told her that? I suppose they'll put the story in a book someday I just hope someone reads it and realizes how easy it is to get screwed around and turned into a pillar of salt |

Speaking for myself, it would be very hard not to look back...but I would try. |

If a man were specifically told not to look back, does that make him a sheep? I have always wondered about the teachings...I would very much love to embrace them all, but hearts are hearts, and souls are souls and we all do things differently... sometimes I feel it goes back to a much deeper meaning, and that even then, when the Bible was going through its own Genesis, there was later a decision to cast one's "lot" of its own... forgive me...you got me to thinking deeper than I normally do on an Open Forum poem...but you know what? That is a very GOOD thing...thank you! |

I liked the replies you drew with this poem as much as the poem itself. Thought provoking, and rich in interpretation. TD |

This is excellent, absolutely outstanding. It takes a real artist to cast him/herself into another being. It’s very much akin to Wislawa Szymborska’s poem. You are to be congratulated. Again Bravo! P.S. http://www.poetrymagazines.org.uk/magazine/record.asp?id=1936 |
