Peppy Popcorn People

they scamper
and hop
energy abounds
spent
as if on credit
no deduction occurs
rejuvenation
instantaneous

as if
somewhere
down the line
maybe with the forming
of gray hair
wrinkles
the price will come due

maybe then
those kindergartners
will slow
and show
they are not perpetual
they are mortal
after all

maybe interest will be charged
on the charges
their popcorn antics
incurred

maybe–
but then
we’ll not likely recognize
them for whom they are
