Daydream-streams of consciousness
Rise up in flood, from old-creek beds
Onto a gray, fissured plane;
Overflows it with disjointed thoughts,
Then pastes them on the inner eye.

Green and blue and aqua-jade:
Water colors drape retired actors;
Old scripts they read again,
Though their lines are always garbled.

The ghosts of past times haunt,
People, places, things, move fast across
The space abyss, out of focus
Without goal, they come flashing;
Stored, subconscious signs,
Across the conscious mind.

Question:

For what reason, calls the prompter
(Raise again, the dusty curtain)
And reopen-- those long closed plays?

Ah, so that tinseled, tenured lines of time
plucked from history and man's mind
might still lend to us, them without patient ears
reason to continue making history
so that in ten one hundred years
such a question might be phrased, yet again...

Thank you for your thoughtful replies...

This poem came to mme when out of the blue I saw a stop sign pass by, one I went thru about 10 years ago....(no accident) it really shook me up at the time though..the occasion resurfaces from time to time, for no apparent reason..
