Scattered Leaves leaves of memory scattered across the rec-room floor, should I lift a broom to sweep would mem’ry be no more? six years ago she passed the ivy, perhaps three this summer I placed it in the can its soil spaded in the ground for months I have pondered the waiting leaves that lie about is it laziness or mourning that holds them in their place do I dare gather them salt them away as trash perhaps it will come to me in a moment, in a flash to wait to listen for wisdom and love place them in the flower beds against her fav’rite rose crumple and spade them dig them in soft and deep watch the beauty of new birth after winter’s sleep ©November 25, 2004 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
