                  day 250

                  Marilyn

                  Could be a Tennessee winter
                       morning
                  a cool damp haze on the sun
                       mid forties
                  I wonder might she be back
                       in the hills
                  on grandmother's place she never
                       showed me

                  There were some good time weekends
                       in Nashville
                  gave me a family connection
                       needed
                  But she was not attracted
                       physically
                  never more than kissing friends
                       she allowed

                  Maybe it was my uncertain
                       future
                  my likely destination
                       Viet Nam
                  And she didn't want to lose twice
                       so soon

                  I wonder might she be back
                       in the hills
