Autumn’s chore

“Under the spreading chestnut-tree”
Said Longfellow to the ages.
“I think that I shall never see”
Has been added to the pages.

”A tree at my window, window tree,”
Was spoken by Robert Frost.
”A dream tree, Polly's tree:”
Said Sylvia, to her cost.

”She slept beneath a tree”
is offered by Emily.
”About thee, as wild vines, about a tree,”
Ms. Browning offers on a spree.

Immortal bards these all are known
In fact, there may be trees they’ve sown
I say, my friend, their trees please take
For none, I’ll bet, ever touched a rake!!

Ken

It is great to rake
but to admire a tree...is free!

Enjoyed this so much!

This was a delightful write...I loved the tie in to the trees using the classic poets...a clever and cute idea...Im a tree hugger so this is one Im glad I didnt miss...and your cadence made it treat to read aloud. Well done poet sir.

Sometimes the thought of a poem really does find a resonant strand of humor.  Thanks to all who enjoyed this.  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
