Wheat dime, ten cents rubbing a small hole, soon to escape the wandering steps. Street talk touching his ears, eyes as he dodged gum, shuffled a paper aside and looked longingly into a bluebird sky. Above him, birds flew from one ledge to another, defying the gravity that gave them life. A solitary cooing of a dove unheard within the wail of taxi horns and hawkers selling cheap wares. She had walked this path, for her scent still lingered the morning air. Or, was it his overcoat that had stolen it from her? He could hear the click of her heels echoing the alley beside him...but darkness had kept her away from straining orbs that salivated to just kiss a stray ruby lip. Yes, the huskiness of her voice, calling out against the neon buzz, overwhelming the squeal of black tires on damp asphalt, he heard her speak out to him, if only in a momentary doze beside the streetlight. Soon night would come again, as ladies danced and primped, pranced and pimped the shuffling walk. And then he might see her, as silken legs lifted the clouds and a pert derriere’ caught his gaze...once more. |
