I posed questions To myself tonight As I went searching Through my heart. To thine own self Be true, right? What am I passionate about? Why is my clock still ticking? What keeps me here anyhow? Given the chance, Is there anything I would shout, Or call out for in the dark? No, I think there’s not. Or, perhaps it’s stuck In my memory. Oh, there’re the kids, practically grown; They want to raise themselves. Now, what do I do To come alive? Age takes it toll, And so does life. Is there no secret spell I can cast myself To make me care enough To explore, To leave these four walls I hide behind Go out into the world, Find new words for my appetite? I admit I do go roaming Through the clouds of distant times, Those former scenes, defining me, Making me who I am, and Who I am not. For want of something stimulating, I dance in dreams with you. Life could be boring, but I think, ignoring, is probably What I do. Or, perhaps it's fear Of too much feeling That keeps me healing here. I've been here five years, honey... once the healing is done, they start pushing you out of the nest... because they know you CAN fly... ![]() but they let you come home...again, and again, and again... ![]() |

Jo - I think many of us can relate to your words here. However, I think "ignoring" only works for a short time - one day we will have to acknowledge it all and take responsibility for all but I would say perhaps put it on the back burner for as long as you can. |

Lily gal, I believe that the very writing of this poem shows that you are not "ignoring" the issues! ~ You are thinking about them! ~ and that's the first step in making the changes that will really make you blossom and bloom! I was engaged with every word I read that spilled from the very core of you and down the page. Perhaps it is time to plant some more flowers in your life's garden. ![]() ![]() With much affection, Linda |

Jo - I have found myself in some difficulty these last few years as I've tried to understand some rather obvious changes that have taken place with regard to myself. Psychic? Yes, to some degree and that degree doesn't afford the privilege of sight but rather of emotion, movement, and a sense of knowing. I've also realised that I am, and here again I add to some degree, what is commonly known as an empath - I pick up feelings from those around me. Now that I understand it is easier to cope. Through it all life remains somewhat confusing but how insightful you are to have thought to ask. Psychic perhaps? ![]() |

Hi! I loved this poem because you have expressed much of how I feel/see things at times. Perhaps the most important question one should ask is, "What do I really, really want?" I have been exploring many ideas regarding attracting what it is I want in and for my life. I think once I figure that out, I can go to work manifesting it into my life. I think we share a common place in this universe, based on this reading. A great write. I am glad I stopped by to read! Take care, Patricia |

GG, you are so sweet. You saw right through some of the ____ and got right down to the real me. I'm okay...I just get moody sometimes (a personaity flaw, maybe), but really, as we get older our roles change and I am having a slow time adjusting. You're a doll, thanks for posting, sweetie! ![]() |

Patricia, I think we do share a similar space. Maybe many of us do. Thank goodness we have this common place to share; I am so grateful for that & for your very sweet post. ![]() |

Hey Big Sis, It sounds like you ARE exploring, observing, and growing. I'm glad you're still writing, sharing here so others can empathethize and grow with you. I, for one, am asking the same questions, and by Gemini Cricket, I'm going to find something worth shouting about. I know you will, too! Love ya, Cathy |

Muted, cuted one! -- Hey there! I know you are right about this. I just have to get up the courage; I guess it's like jumping back into the swimming pool after you bumped your head. At least, this time, I know how to avoid that, maybe. Thanks for your sweet thoughts and post. ![]() |

Iliana/Jo Think of what Jenny Joseph says in her poem "Warning" Maybe think of wearing purple "With a red hat" and "run your stick along fences" "go out in slippers in the rain" "pick the flowers in other peoples gardens" etc, etc... ( try different things) And as she suggests in the last stanza: "But maybe I ought to practice a little now? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple." This is from a mans point of view, on the subject of the poem...I am 60 years old and still cannot (with clarity) understand the complexity of a women's mind and heart, although I have tried, and continue to do so. My feelings are that you have branched into the world much further than the revelations in this poem, I believe that if you continue writing poetry the path of words will take you where you want to go.... -------ice ><> |

Very interesting thoughts expressed here, dear jo. You know, I felt this once. Then I found my Arnis, a new family of friends, a passion, and my life finally became incredibly stimmulating. I also found competative shooting. Put together, knives and guns, what else could a girl want! But in truth, having found this passion, I feel as I once did when just setting out to explore the world. Just last night at an after party (doing big M.A. seminar this weekend), I told Tiny from Canada that sometimes I couldn't believe how old I was, I did not feel it. He asked my age, I told him -- it's 39. He was shocked, I was pleased. I know it is because my life has become filled with passion once again. Find that passion, jo. Don't miss out. And I gaurantee you you'll feel young again. Hugs to you -- susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

For want of something stimulating, I dance in dreams with you. Life could be boring, but I think, ignoring, is probably What I do. Or, perhaps it's fear Of too much feeling That keeps me healing here. Awesome articulation Jo...very much enjoyed Jo, life has a silly way of taking two steps forward and throwing you 4 steps back, but, in the lieu of it all, perhaps the 4 steps back are the really signficant ones, which we should recognize to be our airlift out of an angry sea?????? Love ya Me |

Jo I have felt this, feel it often now....it's not a bad thing to search outside the front door...there is so much to learn from everything. I'd like to share a poem I wrote about a little trip of mine, if you don't mind. I have a feeling that you will be just fine! ![]() /pip/Forum47/HTML/000889.html |
