I ride in the waves with a dorsal fin. You probably think I’m a porpoise or dolphin, but slow down, look carefully, think again. As small as your little finger, I am a Knight in shining armor, the only species (as far as I know) in which the father is pregnant. Yes, m'Lady produces the eggs but I carry them inside all the way to the delivery date. For I am a Knight in shining armor, a tiny finger-sized seahorse, Genus Hippocampus, Phylum Chordata, swimming upright, my coronet held high, moving like a hummingbird within brackish seas and waving strands of seaweed. I ride in the waves with a dorsal fin, as royally as any dolphin. |
