I Am South I love the Mississippi it’s muddy water travels comfortably in my blood my skin is tender cotton a white harvest on green where honeysuckle clings to a sultry night in the delta if you want you can find me if you connect the lightening bugs to a saltwater taffy county fair simple complexity in cream lace a contradiction of place and time woven of pines and magnolias a structure intricately tangled in a mannerly past and present to no matter where it is I am I am south |
