it was after the dawn
as I remember
some monday
when you said hello
and told me about the watchers
that sat like icons
on a bird wire
or like passing shadows
stuck in lonely grooves

you said they made messes
on my whore jacket
with their droppings
I said it wasn't mine
I had just found it
and it was warmer
than the nude air
on my tattoos
you said nude was ketchup

I wondered if you had time
to know me that way
or if you would lose interest
when you saw the dots
from too many pens
connected with too many again
like the lines of a road
that went too many miles
but you were older than me

you dreamed your wrench fit
and you took the time to adjust it
soft jawed you loosened my tight
and tightened me loosely
we were jigsaw dogs then
chasing cars in the junkyard
I scratched your soul
under the bumper
of a drunk old chevy

and broke your cowboy boot halo

I can hardly believe after reading you that
she would ever ose interest? Not to mention, those dots, well, simply, it is impossible to connect them all without the mentor of companionship to each other...and so...her insight will grace you with an understanding smile.
