There’s this haze in summer,
when the air is thick and too hard to breathe
Could it be
the cloud people are drying up,
and floating like dust to the ground

There are times that ghosts rise
from the pavement outside,
and I’d swear they all look familiar

They each bare the uncanny outlines
of men that I sinned with
long ago,
when the world went too fast
for me to know
how crazy skin feels
when it doesn’t fit

It’s not like there are many
but one is always one more
than necessary
when you look back
and can’t remember
the shape of things
It was just so hot
everything felt like too much on
and too many clothes fell off

Life melted into the night
like anointed shadows that glistened
while everyone listened to some greasy rock
It was all just a bus stop
The driver was slow to get there
So slow, in fact
that many just walked
like I did

But after a while, I hitched a ride
with a smile
that never was real
I think he’s still coming up
in the curve
down on memory lane
always
on the hottest days of summer

Regina

This sounds like California and some memories of mine.  You always wright such raw and touching truth.  That's why I like your poetry, and you!

I whole hearted agree, like the style, like the feel, it has teeth.  Enjoyed.

Perhaps I was missing out on some interesting experiences while I was busy  avoiding the hazes and the mazes! lol

An ethereal, lazy, hazy feel to this fine write!

Have a happy summer!

mmmm... the haze sometimes hangs on for days..and we wonder if we ever will again see the clear... but, even in the haze, our memories seem too clear sometimes...

as usual... you leave me in awe of the talent.

I agree with all of the above, an excellent poem indeed!
But this verse caught my eye.
I think I know those ghosts too.

so where are you these days ma'am? busy I am sure....

I came back to read a bit... and I never read you that I don't at least feel the need to say something, though most often the words escape me..or at least ones that don't sound shallow, or like some pat answer used too often when nothing else comes out..

you are a talent... and one I miss

so, you ever venture this way, and read my ramble... just know that your words are enjoyed... often many times over....

and that what ever pulls you to the "real" world... I hope it treats you fairly..and that you, and the ones you love, are well.
