Etched in the illusion of time

A little bit of this is
To Jack
~~

I study my nails too closely for your liking,
like any novelist might.
We concentrate deeply, a crack in my teacup
spills little contradictions down your neck.
Dripping.

A part of my eyes catch on broken terra cotta.
Can't remember,
was it your hands or mine that the blue stain
of enamel and varnish blended with spider veins
and grooves, callused -

"Don't apologize."
I look away.

There is nothing we can do for each other.
The waters stirring November puddles
in coffee and depleted cream,
as we seamlessly avoid that ache, that agony;
Rain in the winter.

Your fingers are shaking,
as is your soul.
I fear for the circumstance, aloof and tragic,
her lips a violent purple line in such methodical
contrast to that of your unfathomable lengths.

How hard can I whisper into your ears, 'til it burns
They can't ever know,
they won't understand.

It's jagged and unsophisticated,
cracks in clay.
My eyes never leave your serration,
and I laugh
at how serious you are when asking
the proper manner of adding rosacea to tea.

If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi

Superb scene setting!  I was sort of hoping this relationship would continue over dinner.  Funny how poetry can make me feel I am watching a classical 40's movie sometimes if it is well written. Enjoyed the hill.

Admire the way you use settings, objects to create mood. I agree with Mysteria, there's a film noire aspect to your poetry. Reminds me of a fantastic poet we once had here named bsquirrel and those who remember his words will tell you what a huge and most deserving compliment that is
