The Presidential Election Part 1: The Debate We are beset by issues today With no solution in sight Dilemmas that cannot be measured By what is wrong or right Will foreign policy at last prevail Over domestic genocide Or will we abandon those in need To halt economic suicide. Will abortion erode all evidence of Future generations to come Or pro-life sow the deadly seeds Of Poverty yet to come Will the constitution grant us all The right to live in liberty Or let us enjoy our own freedom By subjugating those already free. Will faith prevail over beliefs To create the bonds of unity Or let the faithful stand united Against the beliefs of the minority Will union between a couple then Be only as man and wife Or will two people of the same sex Still have to live in strife. Each candidate sings to his own tune But can’t tell right from wrong And even though the music may stop Not so the dance and song. Part 2 : The Vote We’ve pondered on each issue And said all there is to say So how will the vote be cast When its time on election day. So listen well as I relate The shape of things to come The prophecy is prophetic indeed And only known to some. Eighty percent of all who vote Forty, will Republicans sway And Democrats too will gain indeed Forty percent that day And each of the forty will vote Not so for issues at stake But for the party they’re loyal to Albeit a serious mistake. Of the twenty percent left to vote Ten will ponder to the end Will it be Republican or Democrat Who will our nation, mend And these are the few who will In the end have their way And seal the future of the eighty percent By winning the election that day And what of the final ten percent Well…they’ll sleep through election day And simply ask when they wake up So…whose our president today. |

You know, Sir... I hope this stays at the top of Passions for the remaining weeks until the final day... You are adept in your thought process... you are wise enough to not draw lines... and you are most certainly... a voter who matters! THANK YOU! |

The format was pleasing to the eye, and the aloud reading was pleasing to the ear. In short, a very well written poem. I especially liked not only your portayal of both dominant parties, but also chastized those who cannot be bothered to vote. Or, perhaps, that is how they vote, by refusing to. Only they know for sure. |

I find it so sad that when a country is in a bit of a mess, that the people still vote for the "party" and not the person that would be best for the job to get the country back moving better. In Canada your Democrats are like your Conservatives I guess, and not the greatest for the entrepreneurs, but sure great for the "middle class" folks. I used to be Liberal but here it is like wearing a sign, "Throw an egg at me will ya?" ![]() In all seriousness, I sure hope that this particular election Americans will do the right thing. I listened to Clinton's book yesterday on tape, and heck you couldn't pay me enough to run a country and whomever wins, God bless him. I agree, this should be up on top until all the votes are counted and I will be back to see that it is. ![]() |

Thoughts worth pondering, indeed... I say that if both parties suck that they can both be vetoed and new candidates chosen BY THE PEOPLE rather than by the money. -MVS You CAN make a difference, but first you should learn how: http://educate-yourself.org/intro.shtml |

On Being Asked For A War Poem I think it better that in times like these A poet's mouth be silent, for in truth We have no gift to set a statesman right; He has had enough of medding who can please A young girl in the indolence of her youth, Or an old man upon a winter's night. Hello Sunshine, Alicat, Mysteria, Mark, Thank you all for your comments. Certainly appreciate the read. Alicat, I thought your comment "vote by choosing not to vote" very intriquing. Huan ![]() I am fortunate that I don't consider myself a poet but just as someone who likes writing poetry. ![]() Anwaar |

Nice writing....I think its going to be fifty, fifty...then what...perhaps one or two votes will decide...the country seems to be pretty evenly divided on issues...so half of the voters are destined to be mad for the next four years...who knows what the non voters want...perhaps more apathy...people don't seem to be as willing to accept and work with the winner anymore...and the beat goes on...James |

Congratulations ![]() on another fine write, Mr Hassan. There are always some who choose to abstain. Some just hate politics, some just don't like the choices, and some just don't give a hoot. Politics is very divisive, and you've done an excellent job of pointing that out. |

a well written poem... (informative too)tells me much about what's going on between political parties in the US...i just wish all the best for your country...most of my countrymen look up to the United States government as ideal (the Philippines acquired its democratic form of government from the US just after WWII)...God Bless America ![]() |

Midnitesun, Thank you once again for your praise. Politics is indeed divisive. But perhaps in our nation it is this very characteristic that keeps the balance of power right in the middle with never too much on either side. ![]() J. Samm, Thank you for your comments and your compliments to our nation. Our nation has the unique ability to challenge convention and speak its mind and yet its people will unite under one banner when we are threatened. That is what makes this country great...and perhaps the greatest nation in the world |

The answer to each of these questions lies in your response to a single question: Do you value the continuance of Western civilization? If you do, the answers are self-evident. If you don't, they may not be. |

James The very fact that you can question the values of the western civilization without retribution is what makes the western civilization great!! I does not necessarily provide the answers to all our dilemmas. However the very essence of democracy begs us to question and seek answers knowing that they may not always be there and that it is not a perfect system but nevertheless a great system. Anwar. |
