The Heart of Semi-Stone “Did you place it, just so?” No… Although nature, time, perhaps, fate? Has a way, in and of itself, to smack you solid when you walk alone, not sure of your search, just knowing the need. Paper, Rock, Scissors. I never played that game, for I never wanted to lose, but I should have played the game, just to prepare to place my heart, just so. Ah, El Capitan! I did not know what to expect, and had I paid the fee to walk the beach, [free to me, all for a smile, as a former beach-walker, now transplanted] I would have left, owing so much more. For I found before me a heart of semi-stone… and I thought of the many, who live lives of difficulties, giving all, taking little, and I saw  their hearts spaced, just so…the soft side of love, the hard side of reality, with shadows of what once was between two, the nestling of nuzzling, of both parent, and child. “Did you place it, just so?” The voice is haunting me now… I have not the imagination to imitate nature; I am but a woman of veils, hiding my source of well-sprung life; marveling that the many grains which once filled my hourglass with seemingly no boundaries… have slipped away far too easily, much too swiftly… “Did you place it, just so?” No, not then, but yes, just now… among words that may someday inspire others, to say, Carpe diem! And not look backwards…. |

We must be on a similar track. Paper, scissors, stone was something I wrote about a month ago. This week I attempted to go the Nature Store to find a perfect stone as a gift. It is no longer in the mall. I wonder if it still exists anywhere! I was thinking of giving my son a polished fossil, a flat one like I saw before so he could carry it in his pocket for good luck. Your poem is beautiful, causing me to stray here and there and pick up an image or a memory or two. Enjoyed this very much. missie/cathy . |
