Listening to every heart

Straddling the Rockies

It would seem easy enough
Given tenacity,
That one could straddle the country,
Small as it is becoming,
And have one’s heart
In two places…

So I stand connected by beach
And sand, surf and pounding waves,
And hear my heart again…
One foot firmly planted in my start…

And I stand, connected by roots
Of long ago, where ancient grasses wave
Me home, and the beaver return
To claim their own, and my stance is steady…

It would seem easy enough,
And I am stubborn enough,
To think I can find happiness in either place,
Small as it is becoming,
And lay my heart, my one heart,
In two places…

Straddling the Rockies.

Of course you can!  After meeting you I am convinced that you can do anything you set your heart to.

Don't we all wish to blend our roots with our present?  Perhaps those that live within their roots are the happiest?  Well written!  KJ

Not so sure of the small heart part, but, it is the heart of the poet and I am sure easily at home anywhere.  Good Poem

It isn't an easy choice, to choose, but life has a way of making those decisions for us.

I'll always feel connected to oak trees from living four years in the country, but the ocean will always be calling me.

Lovely, lovely and so strange -- it's very in tune with one I just wrote. We must be on the same "wave" length.

I was wondering if you had a good time out here, I guess I have my answer!

Hugs to you.

Corinne

It is not future and past but the difference of where heart and reality dwell for me... That straddle can be both a slip waiting to happen and the very balance that defines life... definitely keeps us aware and awake. *S*

Beautiful work, dear lady... I hope your trip was fantastic... you were missed! *S*

Sunshine,

It is so good to read your poetry again!  I've been pretty busy lately, but when I am able to take a peak at the blue pages, I always look for your name because I know I'll have happy wanderings with each word.  And this...it rings so true:

It would seem easy enough
Given tenacity,
That one could straddle the country,
Small as it is becoming,
And have one’s heart
In two places.

Karilea ... this is just beautiful and now that I am in the mountains away from the ocean, I can certainly relate.

I am sending my friend, Peg a link to this and I know she will just love it!

hugs, Marti

Straddling takes serious flexability.
