(Today would have been John Lennon's 64th birthday. John is the prime influence on me and my writing, so this following poem is dedicated to him, and the world. I wrote a year ago today. Love you, John.) John John why do you have to be so gone? the world is moving on but the world is stopped in its tracks John could you have seen what it lacks? the world is turning ‘round and still you remain unfound John the four winds blow 3000 miles miles of wire ‘cross fruited plains you are here today you feel these growing pains the world is not in the knowing John, how? how can we find this out? John, imagine the world is not noticing imagination the world is not a glowing incarnation of our best dreams John, so it seems reaching for real love trying to think of the world in the knowing seeds, cracked earth, sewing flags to unfurl over what’s going on and you’re watching us John out of the blue you know us John out of the darkness we have to carry on out in the fields we carry these songs John, oh you’re gone December chills long and short is this life love kills the wrong peace follows strife and John believe in us again the wind to never blow so cold again "Poets are all who love, who feel great truths, and tell them; and the truth of truths is love." --Philip James Bailey |
