So long now I have watched you grow I watched the petal blossom show. Patiently, I tried to teach Each special rose is so unique. Keep your individuality. But now I see it was for naught. All it took was love’s foul hook To leave you withered and unfrocked By its vacuum sucking off your show For its own glory. Now you know. Love must first be for yourself And to yourself be true. For if you give yourself away Before you see the sky is blue, There might be nothing left of you. |

Karen, this might make a good discussion....'ya think? I wrote this for my daughter tho I'll probably never give it to her. She's drowning in the sea of first love at the moment and totally losing herself. Seen that before? I do believe there is always something left of us after love sucks us dry so I agree with you. I suppose I was trying to make a point about the emptiness that we're left with when it ends. and *hugs* and I've missed you, too. I guess I have been inside my shell lately. .....jojo |

I agree it would make a great discussion topic--for all ages. Feel free to download a copy directly into my brain. But yes...I do agree. Always something left of me. I do it deliberately to drive men mad. bwahahahahaha '_ |

Serene One, oh yes.....makes 'em crazy alright. I found out the hard way and it is not a lesson I will have to learn a second time! Maybe that needs clarification....what I learned is that I will not give up ME anymore; I will not disappear into the sea....I have learned to swim....oh yeah. |

You know, I'd looked for some of your words this morning and not finding anything recent I ran back on again the next time I got a chance, just now, and did a smart search on you and it came up with this new post! Guess I should have checked the lobby first Said it before but it still applies, I miss havign a chance to be here and read you. A lot of wisdom in these words you wrote here. Even if you don't give it to her, she knows... you've taught her well with love, I'm sure of it. Always, Alyssa He was a man of sorrows |

Sweet Alyssa, I hope so...and I'm praying. Thank you, sweetheart, for posting. I haven't been in here very much myself since early September. Guess I've been preoccupied with alot of different things. I hope to find more time and mind soon. In the meantime, I hope you are doing okay and things are working out. love you, jo |

Glad to see you posting again, Jo! As for your poem, I feel this, as you know I would! Oh, those weren't the days! Yes, it's so true that we often sacrifice our being for love. Hoping the situation improves soon. Fortunatately, my "sweet" daughter is more like her dad than me! Take care, sis. I'll try to call soon. Miss ya. cathy |

Ah Jo, my baby is only 9, so I've yet to see this, but you speak with the wisdom of the sages of old. This is a lesson I am trying to instill in my girl with regards to all, that she is an individual and needs to see and love herself - not fall for what she thinks others want to see in her. Does that make sense? Ah well, I was so happy to see your name, practically fell off my chair Love to you, dear friend - Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Jo~ It IS good to see you~ The wisdom is motherly-understood ... but, as it most likely did in our day ... falls on deaf ears of those who have to learn it for themselves~ The biggest thing we ALL can learn is to ALWAYS save something for ourselves~ Not easy ... but we are bounce-backable~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, |

quote: Beautiful words flowing from a mother's heart ... I understand! I have read this the other day, but wasn't able to reply immediately. Meanwhile I came to this conclusion: first loves are no doubt often a "risky business", that's true, but what we must keep always in mind is that we can't "dry out" because of loving another. The sea of love in our heart expands and grows every time we share love. The law of "giving is receiving." You are right, when we are aware of being complete on our own and when we love ourselves, the risk of "losing ourselves" is like null. Thank you for your thought provoking piece, so full of love. Love and hugs. Margherita |

"WHERE ARE YOU?" That's just what I'm wondering now. I haven't seen your words to read here for a while and am wondering if things are okay. How are you? And, once again, I love this poem and the depth of compassion and wisdom in it. Please take care... Always, Alyssa He was a man of sorrows |
