Wish upon a snowflake |

Now here is something I have always wondered about. If you were to take a snowflake, Freeze it motionless in space, Suspend the law of gravitation, Magnify the snowflake say, two hundred times, And make Time stop, So the snowflake wouldn’t melt, And made the snowflake So it wouldn’t fall apart, What would this magnified snowflake feel like? What dimensions would it have? Would it be thick … or thin? … Would it be six-sided … eight-sided? Would it feel like gossamer? … Like cotton candy? Would it feel delicate and strong? Would there be intricate designs Upon its surface I could feel? If only I could catch them Before they are deformed by impact. If only I could catch them for my study Before my heated fingers make them melt, Before they have a chance to bounce away And get trampled underfoot. I wish upon a star … I wish upon a snowflake … SC The nearest helping hand you have Is at the end of your arm. |

Love your lines of the delicate snowflake. Always love a fresh snow with the glow of sparkling diamonds. Cold upon the tongue......a delight. Do they have a flavor? Is the color really white or rainbow? Does it make a sound as it hits the ground? This is a fun write. Hugs BonBon |

Wish I could send you a giant snowflake that wouldn't melt. WAIT! I can, if you'll accept one made from paper or thread, an imitation snowflake. Not quite the same, I know. Love the way you ponder nature. |

It would look like nothing so much as a galaxy.....which is of course, made of voluntary stars with a common purpose. |

Yes!! Yes!!! I forgot ... It occured to me later to put that at the end of the poem! Bonnie and the other guy didn't really give me a good analogy. Yes, paper and some string or yarn set in glue. There is probably more detail than you can reproduce in this way but currently I don't have more than lyrical descriptions. I also wonder what would happen if you were to cut a flake open, what would be inside? Would it even have an "inside" or would the "inside just be a replication of the surface-underside? Do you see through them or are they opaque? Are they seen in 2 ddimentions or 3? Would it scatter light like prisms and rainbows? SC |

Jaime, some snowflakes are stellar dendrites, and have symmetrical six sided branches; some are more needle-like; some are 'rimed' meaning they are frozen droplets that gather together into a ball called a 'grauple' which is soft hail, somewhat like the ones you grew up dodging in Texas. More later, after I re-read Nakaya or Bentley, who taught me most everything I know about flakes...snowflakes, that is. LOL |
