Wind’s kiss warm upon my face Heated canyon walls Shimmering in visible waves Burnished in reds and gold ancient spirits speak from these walls Sands swirl about my feet Dusting across secluded plain Erasing traces of lizard’s retreat Trailing off towards shadow’s reprieve can you hear their voices calling caught upon the wind? Sage brush sags with effort To hold self upright All the desert longs For the coming of the night what magic shall be wrought when the shaman comes to dance? Sun settles below the crest Of corrugated landscape Evening creeps in silence near As dusk bathes the landscape in amber hue can you see the shadows shifting in time to the chanting whispers of wailing? Sweet relief in essence cool Shades of dark engulf white hot And all the desert heaves a sigh In the cool blue waves of eventide night time moon sheds its blessings in answer to the shaman’s calls s.a.t. Thanks to Snow for helping me with the italics . . . Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Many thanks, Snow. The desert has woven its spell over me many times too. And I do so appreciate the help with the italics, it was important, I think. Nancy Lee -- your kind reply is much appreciated. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Susan, I enjoyed the trip, though I found myself getting a little thirsty at times. So entrancing is the lore of the Shaman, of those who lived in ages past upon the desert plains and cliffs. You brought it all out to be seen and felt. Thank You. |
