November Dusk There’s a jukebox in the middle of the highway playing a scratchy, lonesome Drifters song there’s a leather jacket slung over a chair face to face with the brilliant pink dawn and I’m a thousand miles from your kiss soaking solemnly in the mountain sun I’m counting my losses and empty wishes feeling a little under broken love’s gun but come November dusk, I’ll continue my run There’s a cold dark heart beating on the plains there’s a bitter gin soaked rain bleeding on me and I’m nowhere to be found, hands on the reins guiding my footsteps through the western trees and the radio is crackling, crumbling chords away tires wasting away on the freeway’s gray skin the day is slowly dying, dyed crimson in display your eyes burning the landscape embers again but come November dusk, I'll be out in the open And October is spinning wildly at my heels falling under a crystalline heart moon shining like snow flurries slipping under my wheels now our love’s just cold dust gathering in an empty room "Poets are all who love, who feel great truths, and tell them; and the truth of truths is love." --Philip James Bailey |
