Crying
with shivering heart she wrote,

"Near budding flowers
among crystal leaves, two birds--
only one flew South."

I stroked
her hair from her tears
then said,

"Your worn book you've shut,
page forty on the table--
'neath your coffee cup."

She smiled
then touched my hand.

I like the soft gentle feel of this-

felt like an understanding between the both of them...why they needed their own space...leaves one feeling a sense of harmony/peace in an agreement between the two.

Nicely written

Kenneth,
I love this piece. A scene so rich in emotion.

this verse was written after i spent an hour with a friend who had just said "goodbye" to her more youthful companion. i wrote another short response to the same issue titled, "she loves him too much" -- an observation in a new orleans' coffee house.

thank you passing shadows, Enchantress, LeeJ, Martie, Midnitesun & Margherita for taking the time to both read and punch the keys.
