of Depression

In the daylight she walked alone
Each step a pain,
Each pain taking her further from home,
Such that it was.
Returning to those walls had no gain
Just things that were
When it was a place that felt like home,
Now there was nothing for her.
The tears had ended as she strode,
Each stride a pain,
Barefoot on the hot asphalt road,
But she felt cold,
She lost herself and became alone,
Her mind had lost hold
And became unsure that the world was there
Coming down the ridge
Gravity pulling on each numbed bone
Not knowing where or how far.
Thoughts of dark and heart of stone
Breath poisoned by a passing car
She came upon a bridge.

Fumes of road swept away
As a breeze caught the end of day
Down that valley flowers still bloom,
With sunset they’ll close soon,
And fragrance would be ending
To her there on the edge standing,
The bridge of today behind
Sweetness in air she might find,
Would the next step her life fix
There where heaven and earth mix
With insanity of memory transfix
With a directional step to pick
Forward to the air and nowhere
Back to walking to nowhere,
The blossoms are closed in the valley
The night is fully on the valley
The dark is complete.

Transfixed in thought of what might be
Footsteps near brought her glance
To a pale skin thin man,
Hesitant and unsure of reality
Could it be just by chance,
Then he offered her his hand.

Professor,
Incredible. This reminds me so much of something we observed yesterday when we were driving.  I wonder if you had read the prose posted about a similar situation.

You expressed this well.

Gravity pulling on each numbed bone.  How I identify with this!

Professor,
I mentioned this post had special meaning to me, reminding me of the woman we saw over the weekend... I just found out, she jumped from the mile high bridge...and we couldn't do a thing about it.

Would you consider writing a poem in memorial of her?  I would, but I don't think I can.
