walking the surreal

She appeared as if from the shimmering mist
Clothed in a long flowing amber gown
Her hair was adorned with a floral wreath
Encircling the cascade of chestnut brown

Her skin was fair, alabaster white
It glowed as if of moon stone made
Her lips they blossomed a rosy red
And her eyes were a true violet shade

The squire, he felt his breath become caught
In the hold of adoration profound
She moved with the grace of a woodland sprite
As she swept o’er the meadow down

He stood awaiting, hat swept from head
And as she approached he gave low bow
“Are you the she that they said would come?”
His words barely heard, whispered aloud

She curtsied low with a hint of a smile
Then took his proffered hand
And magic burst from round about
Shooting stars dazzling o’er the land

And there, somewhere across the lea
First soft then in rising resound
Came the enchanted music of the fairy folk
And the fireflies began to flitter around

A gentle breeze stirred the trees
And wafted a scent of the divine
The moon above seemed to wink
And Mars and Venus kept time

The squire, he bowed then drew her close
Hand upon waist, eye meeting eye
Then he swept her away in step to the tune
And even Father Time was heard to sigh
