Sharon, dear friend, thank you so much for this lovely birthday poem and picture. Your words touch my heart, as do the words of the replies here. So much love and friendship has come to me from this poetry place, I feel blessed to be a part of it. Much love to you all!  -------------------- On the Cusp, Twice Morning lights half the bay tree leaving shadowed leaves still asleep their fragrance curled The other side is golden reaching pulling heat holding the stretching mourning dove whose song unfastens night Balanced on the cusp I teeter one leg holding summer’s sunflower such a mighty bloom it has already been felled by its own weight and its stem has folded yet it lays its blond head into the garden is if just resting for a minute its beauty only made more reverent in supine And on the other leg fall tapped me at midnight its cool fingers through the French door slid across the full moons path telling my Virgo to pull the sheet over my naked summer shoulders telling me its almost time again for flannel and my changing is this minute I sometimes look into the mirror and like the tree in shades of morning there are two of me one in full sun arms flung and the other in shadow cuddling with the end of summer’s sunflower one holding to my Virgo with pieces of me piled neatly words stacked and sure the other jumping onto the scale of Libra with the weight of so many questions knowing there are many right answers One of me so sure of my own heat the other hiding in the shadow of retreat --------- My muse doesn't seem to be able to write another birthday poem, at least not yet, so I'll post this one here. Martie ~ Me mind you posting a poem, absolutely never! You are absolutely the only person I would never suggest to put any graphics on their work to clutter it up as I see your art in my mind so clearly without any visuals. So on your birthday, I had to thank you for the gift you give us of the privilage of reading your thoughts and heart.  p.s. I am wife #3, after our JM when you do convert Sy! She is indeed the best. Martie, I owe you particular thanks. I may never have told you, but even though I have a degree in English Literature, I had never found a female poet whose words really "clicked" with me -- until I joined PIP and ran into yours. After that I gained many, and I think that now I enjoy more writing by women than by men, both here and in the books I buy...but your poetry was the key. What wonderful people we have here and that is so evident in their comments to Martie, and even me. However, I didn't really give her a gift, for she is the gift. I told her the other day, since day one in coming to this site I started to read her every single day. I printed myself a little book that goes with me everywhere, called, "Martieisms" and it is in its third print. I can NOT wait until I see her work on a shelf somewhere someday.Thank you all for signing her card, you are very special people here. |
