This poem is not pretty. I wrote it as part of a thread I was involved in 10/01 on theconnection forums. I thought I had posted it here, but I searched and came up empty.

babies cry louder than bombs
requesting the attention
of a "precisely targeted" mom
not listening.

glistening -
still warm pools of red
caked like wax.
Caked I said -

are her condolances.

Poetry and prose about war should not be pretty. War is not pretty or nice, and all instances of death by violence are ugly.

Stay a while, and speak your piece, machiner. While war and violence are vulgar and repulsive by nature, poetry does not need to be.
