Want to be center of attention
prime holder of permanent annual wins,
chosen speaker at community hall events
rare moments for family and friends end
after a win, whose to contend?
you could be popular in a detention center
with circuit people, freshly dried and picked
maybe a few tans, piercings, eye-lid shiners
famous when minus an identity card
users and used espousing moments of glory
popular vote wins for a detainee in the end

Someone at the door has called
to send a popular vote
for a day, couple of weeks
distinct carriage and free of fear
moment of glory spins figure eight
world famous run on gelid skate...
attention centre right on ice
detention center of selected spice...
popularity is within you too
want to be center of attention?

"popular vote wins for a detainee in the end"

This reminded me of a story...

It was the infamous election for the Governor of the State of Lousisana--David Duke vs. Edwin Edwards (now both convicted felons)

There was a scheduled debate, and damn I wish I knew the source, prolly the local Times Picayune, but the story went, the David Duke, being shorter than E. Edwards protested regarding the podiums before the cameras rolled. He knew the psychology of camera and such, and protested that he needed a platform to stand on, to be at equal heighth with Edwards.

Whereupon Edwards turned to him and smirked, "Well that's your problem, buddy. You don't have a platform to stand on!"

I heard the Duke took it all in good humor too, after receiving his platform (of course)

But right before the cameras rolled, Edwards looked at him, and in the game psychology of the moment, he told David Duke:

"If you're elected? You won't be happy."

David Duke's comment was an agreeable,

"You're probably right."

Then the camera rolled and the rest is history...

smile.

Thank you for this, Martin.

Been awhile since I'd read you due to time and such, but see what you bring out in me?

gleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

thanks bud

Martin,
You are soooooo right. Pride is a weakness for us all...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
