September Starts Three point five decades ago life began to end a time, a place, a moment, but youth yields to immortality; whether worthy, or not. Age does not always bring wisdom; no, sometimes wisdom wore youthful skirts of don’t go there, or sleek lines of slacks that wouldn’t, either; those were the ones I knew. Some three hundred years ago, perhaps “puritan” would be the call word; “nerds” of today suffice, their minds elsewhere, their libidos… not worthy of time. Even Peggy Sue saw the big picture when she thought she was being left out, even in inclusion, and tried to find her way back home again, if only in her mind. I remember the faces of my youth; I am always good with faces; eyes, lips, their set of shoulder or jut of hip, yes, I remember all of that; so forgive me if your face doesn’t match the name on my lips of your youthful yesterday; I will try as I might, but three point five decades will alter who we all are; even as we search the mirror for yesterday, we cannot fight the image in our mind of our perfect moment; I never found a perfect moment for myself, so I accept who I am… it will be interesting to see you, and you, and see if I am now acceptable into your circle. It really won’t matter, you see… Because the independent you made me, remains. O, I will remember your faces, then, and now…and be glad I attended a reunion of first invite…I do look forward to seeing those that made me who I am. Will you remember all of the nicknames you gave me? No….it will be a fun evening….we won’t even go there. |

Karilea I have never been to a reunion...not that kind..and it may be to late for me, most are gone or lost but certainly not forgotten. I think you will find yours just the way you should, those seeing you the way you are...beautiful and alive and real! |

"I will try as I might, but three point five decades will alter who we all are; even as we search the mirror for yesterday, we cannot fight the image in our mind of our perfect moment;" Karilea, I enjoyed the honestly with which you wrote this. It is profound, but true, that we're are so surely shaped by those years and those people who we hardly know at all when we are all grown up (so to speak). I don't think I would even recognize anyone unless they looked a lot like their parents. I have only been to one reunion at 10 years, and I hardly knew half the folks by appearance at that time....and so many names forgotten. Have fun, SIL. ....jo |

If only we could have felt this way so many years before. A very nice, relaxed, truthful and more important, an accepting feel to what we really are...and how wonderful it is now to feel good about it. Outstanding job with this one Sunshine! wayne If nothing is something |

keeper keeper keeper Have fun at that reunion. I went to my 10 year reunion. A few were still playing the same old look-at-me-aren't-I-great games they did in high school. I might go again some day to another one, if anyone puts one together for septugenarians. LOL |

I enjoyed this read - the honesty it breathes and the thoughts it touches upon. I've not been to a reunion, don't know that I'll ever go - highschool for me was a mere passing of time, a stepping stone. But sometimes I think about going and wondering who so-and-so grew up to become. Have fun. Enjoy. From all you've shared of yourself here, you've much beauty and soul to share at your reunion - Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Wow, this is a great write. I have never mustered the courage to go to reunion myself -- though I can certainly relate to the pondering if I might fionally fit in the inner circle there. |

I'm so glad Michael pointed this one out to me. Enjoyed much. Will you be writing a follow up after the event, so we can see how Peggy fares? |

So smiling. You see, I teach at the same high school I attended. Our class graduation picture was one of the few that was missing from the display in the commons area of the building. Well, the other day, I found that is had been replaced. How strange it all was to see pictures of my classmates in the school I attended...almost as if it were "back in the day" once again. A beautiful write, Karilea. You have indeed left a smile on my face. Patricia |
