I find it incredulous
that touring the same country
can evoke such
drastically different impressions
for you and me

Perhaps I haven't appreciated
how dynamic and multi-faceted
Vietnam can be

Perhaps I am naive to assume
that I have occupied
a niche on
authentic, rich insights
about Vietnam and its people

Perhaps the exposure to
several distinctive travel experiences
has inculcated a complacency,
a smug been-there-done-that understanding
that is ignorant of
alternative frames of interpretation

Regretful about
the smallness of my heart
to take in the bigness of Vietnam,
I will for its expansion

for see, who has visited Vietnam and loves it as much as i do

Kaile, my husband was in Vietnam during the "conflict". He truly loved the country he was in. He thought it quite beautiful, and full of wonderful charm, color, and life. He was quite happy there...with the exception of what he had to do during his time there. I believe he would return to see its changes...

if we ever do come over, I would hope to meet you, in your Vietnam.

Nice writing...I have a Chinese/Vietnamese friend that wants me to take a trip to Vietnam with her...she still has family living there...James
