For my son, Joel... you left for ohio unable to hold on any longer to apron strings tied over and over in an effort to cling to the past You said goodbye with teary eyes and tried to ignore my breaking heart by glancing away you had long over stayed, I know you had to go, to make it on your own- Ohio or bust it's just... so hard to ignore your room filled with shadows and a few scattered boxes one or two reminders of where you used to sleep with your hands clasped beneath your cheek like you did when you were five I was young and more alive then You had your reasons for leaving the two of you always did clash and I suppose it was for the best for I had no string left to tie what was broken with token threads and empty promises besides, She was waiting with baited breath and new love giggles cheeks blushed with the rush of possibilities that tickled somewhere in her belly's pit while you, wired and alive enjoyed the drive from here to there with no hours to spare from this tiny town to the new place you'd lay in some foreign stay so far away... We talk long distance chatter net, phone, doesn't matter still hoping for the mother son connection or some reflection of the past but it's different, though the love is the same and now it's not so painful to say your name or visit your old room where at night your computer light used to glow beneath the door though I assume, it happens there in Ohio... It's just another time of missing as another flies from the nest and comes to rest in their own little haven, let's see.. how many now has it been for me? Three... soon to be four, with the possibility of one more. leaving me with only two and once they're gone- "there was an old lady who lived in a shoe, all her babies left home and she knew not what to do..." I miss you, Joey... ~Willow~ 7/04 |

Welcome, Willow! What a fabulous piece of writing this is. And, oh, how well I know the feelings. I have one of two left at home and he just can't wait to grow up. Brava for the great poem. ![]() |

Oh my, I know this loss of a son as well, and I bet all Mothers go through this like you have described. I saw your name and anxiously opened your poem to read. My best friend's name was Willow - lovely name you have chosen for our pen name. Welcome to Ron's home of poetry, and I know you will indeed love it here. ![]() Imagination is more important than knowledge... Albert Einstein |

Long time no see, Willow. Welcome home. The cry of the mother to son is always heard, no matter what distance. Your poem was wonderful...I hope he reads it some day. |

Oh my, this poem's flow of emotion and the choice of words, well expressed. It read easily and I could feel the sorrow of a mother when she must let go. Excellent. ![]() Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Welcome back Willow! You certainly had me commiserating with you on this one. Mind you, it was one of my daughters that had grown up and out. My precious baby may no longer be a baby but she certainly is still precious to me. A genuine out-pouring from a mother's heart. ![]() Earth Angel |
