Spiny masses of sun spears
pierced

eventually

in the middle of a shallow afternoon
as I mis-spent daylight hours
inside,
with all the windows closed

something woke me

it wasn't directly you.

I'm not sure of the hour
when this all became so uniformly sad

a battle of will
of skirt length and made up eyes
or absence of ties and blazers,

someone taught me a lesson;

You can never go back
on rules you choose to break

no matter how may lines
of apologetic repetition
meet chalk
and board

facing the wall
ashamed

they promise to play back slowly
in mid morning pace

slow and sleepy

no matter the time of day

with or without you weeping.

It's a tough lesson to learn much less accept the things we cannot change.

Nice writing gemma~

Unfortunately.. no.

Gemma, you hit it straight on when you said
