Unfinished

in my drawers-
not the ones locked tightly
the ones closed slightly,
oiled for late night opening-
yours is the only file
marked Unfinished
no, I have no current correspondence
to while away my hours
filing and refiling
on pleasured whim
and no, the date on your picture
has not changed
it is the same as of
older days when
you and I smiled
dreamed of touch,
tickle, and more than
permission is granted to
write of but
until I take no pleasure
in spreading your
contents over my desktop
and until regret’s fingers do
not softly sweep
you back into
your jacket, your memory
shall remain...

I like the gentle sadness of this one, and the image of the file boxes is different. I like this.

There is an understated elegance in this...
not quite closed, not quite open,
private to heart, but known to many...

I like the private images of this...
the quiet tone...

But then, you already know you are one of my favorite poets...
