Queen for a day,
Win a lottery
What we're teaching youth
Is a mockery

Video games
Hip Hop crap
Disguised as music,
(Try humming rap)

Material things
Cribs owned by trash
Glorious cars
From Rapper's cash

Nip and Tuck
That's all you need
A little coke
A puff of weed.

A fancy car
Luxury mansion
Brand new breasts
To seek attraction.

Instead of wheels
That gleem with spinners
Perhaps some college
Would produce more winners?

What are we teaching
To our teens?
There's better routes
To self esteem.

Ya' know Toe,
Excellent write and point. I'll second that though I might have worded it different.

Good one kiddo, now I gotta go take another pepcid...hehehhehee
this stuff makes me wanna vomit...seriously
what are these real tv shows doing?  And the scary part is, they are getting ratings which speaks volumns about our society's concept and intelligence....I mean, they are really buying this stuff Toe

Thank you a bunch for writing and sharing...you must post more, more more more

You got that right Toerag, we are cultivating whole generations that are incapable of thinking for themselves, and who believe the world owes them for just being here.

hopefully (although somewhat doubtful) it's just a passing phase, kind of like slouch socks and poofy hair (although slouch socks were awesome).

Gloom?  Toe often touches on things that others wouldn't, offering his own parlay of just what in the heck is wrong with our world.  I was in a conversation the other night with very dear friends, on what I watch on the "tube" and what I don't watch...

Reality shows top that list...

and anything that has to deal with vanity is out the window, as well.  Give me facts, and give me some good humor...and leave the rest to my imagination.

Because the papers will fill in the rest.

Thank you, Toe!

Good poem. I agree college would be the better choice for most. But come on, regardless of wether or not you like what some rappers talk about, you have to admit some of them are amazing poets.  I've heard some songs were the ryhme and rythem shceme just blew me away.

The Toe Man speaketh
His words ring loud and clear
Wisdom drips from his pen
As he sips a little beer

He's done a lot of living
He's seen and done it all
And when he speaks his mind
Some heads are gonna fall

His sense is not that common
It shines above the rest
So I'll pass on the scalpel
And keep each natural breast!

You definently said it as it is and I completley agee with you. However, it's not as if disregard for morality has been recent. Look back in time and you'll find out that there has always been a subculture that live their lives "against the grain." I do like the write though.

Hi Toe, grreat peice this ended it nicely
" There's better routes
To self esteem."

so true, but I have to say I'm into some rap music. I'ts a shame that most of the stuff you see these days is exactly as you say. but there are some poets out there who actually express thoughts and views on topics such as war, religion, politics and the state of society throuh hip hop music. trying to "edutain" younger minds instead of polluting them. ironically these artists with "something to say" are the ones that never make it big. You wont see many hip hop artists speaking clearly or intelligently to the young masses on MTV. so sad. great peice.

sorry, but i feel i have to make a few points.

every generation, as it gels into adulthood, has a large body of those who look down upon the current emerging trends, claiming that values are degrading, that the current youth is ignorant and foul-mouthed, and that, in essence, the word is going to hell-in-a-handbasket. these are the type of people that watch carefully the terrorist alerts and pray to God their little town in Nebraska doesn't get hit. i shake my head at those pessimistic sentiments and wonder if humanity doesnt ALWAYS exist in a spectrum of abilities, intelligences, and moralities, and that groaning about the bottom crust of culture every generation isn't simply a waste of time.

Toe baby,
I've lipped off one too many times and feel obligated to give credit where it was always due. Specifically I have come back to eat my humble pie and pay the price of being a smartie pants. And to prove that you were right all along and that your shock value has good Toe value I share with you my pathetic words that you might have your just turn at gloating:

If you can’t get rich
In a single day,
Find somebody else’s
And take it away.

Arcades of violence
Filled with foul noise,
How poorly we teach
With rotten toys.

Accumulating things
Earned by bad means.
Polluting our kids
And wrecking our teens.

Drugs and surgeries
That keep others rich,
Fulfilling every desire,
Like scratching an itch.

Wheels beyond means
And homes to break the bank,
Cups that are full
With plastic surgeons to thank.

Gratification so insatiable
It cannot be stopped,
A better education
Is the only way it’s topped.

Our kids all need
A better place to turn,
Help them find their worth
Teach them how to learn.

P.S. Be safe and watch out for Ivan!

You got a lot of homespun wisdom and humor in this little piece, Toe.....funny and at the same time sad that it's so true..

I get at least 10 e-mails a day from people trying to get me to enlarge my breasts....so far I've held off

Mr.Merriman....

Yes, every generation does have a large
body that looks down on them and their
emerging trends....I don't watch for
terrorist alerts...but I do pray that
we stop these pricks before they hit any
city...in any state...I think Judge Joe
Brown summed it up perfectly in one of his
TV court cases...He had a young fella in there, he was standing like he had no backbone, slouched down, was calling the judge "Brother"...and speaking ebonic type poor English....and Judge Brown stopped him half way thru a sentence and asked: "Did you eat breakfast this morning?....his answer was "yes"...then he said "then stand up straight!...Then he said..secondly, "I am not your "brother"...because if I were your brother you wouldn't be in this court, you may be in the hospital getting six inches of my size 12 surgically removed from your rear end, but you wouldn't be here!...And last but not least, "Do you speak English?...Because if you talk any more of that crap you're talking now in my courtroom you will be removed and more than likely lose this case before I hear any more testimony...DO WE UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER?"...It was amazing how much this kid changed in about 1 minute...

Balladeer.....I'm glad you've resisted because from what I've heard if your breasts were any larger you could have a successful webpage.......I knew this girl that only had enough money to get one of her breasts enlarged at a time....before she had saved enough money to get the second one done she entered a wet T-shirt contest...she took first and third place...
