Emily Sad Eyes

He was a senior
she was a freshman
all through the days
she would only dream
of being with him
he didn’t know her from the crowd
she adored him from afar
his wild eyes betrayed something
Emily held deep in her heart
Emily’s own eyes
sad eyes of green
would stare deep into a mirror
I don’t know what she though she’d see
maybe a window into her fears
or maybe something he’d hold dear
he went to a rave one night
flew too far, flew too high
he was never seen again
then they found his body in a ditch,
behind the old drive-in
Emily never shed a tear
she only stared into the night
safe in her sea of fears
hidden from the daylight
into the forests and creeks
and his arms in her mind
she disappeared for weeks
and turned up cold and broken
in the same ditch he died in
she rode in a cop car
heading for her home
she stared out the window
at the cold cemetery stones
a gentle smile,
for his gun she reached
the blast was muted
by the tires’ screech
when I think back on her story
I’d hold my baby tight
I’d watch her sleep at night
and I’d say a blessing for her
I’d say a blessing for me
and for Emily sad eyes,
somewhere she’s laying beside her dream

I'm sorry but it gets lost halfway.

I can understand the secret love.

The dependency that is built up without the other person knowing.

The loss of yourself as the person you worshipped fails.

The desire to prevent a child of yours from following on, on your mistakes, but it does lose it and the flow stops

A very sad poem, reminds me
of some old songs
from long long ago...

Hold that baby very tight.

Actually, the "baby" that the narrator holds tight wasn't meant to be his child, but rather his girlfriend or wife. But it's nice to know it's open for interpretation; it could very well be his daughter; that hadn't occured to me while writing it, and it adds a whole new dimension to it. Thanks!
