~*~

True beauty is the core
that lies beneath the surface,
it is the very heart of who we are
without face makeup to cover our imperfections.

Pity those who are blessed with outward beauty
for the common man doesn't often look any further
or take the time to see beyond their physical appearance,
when in reality, they are no different from you or I.

The desire to show our best side is human nature
but certainly, we all have our flaws.

Truth is what mankind aspires to
and yet it is not always what we want to hear,
or voice out loud.
It has the ability to hurt others, and ourselves as well.

It goes hand and hand with feelings and emotions
that we shouldn't have to deny,
if in fact they are true and honest
and yet we have a tendency to regret them.

Tears and anger are part of the process,
as is the joy and all the happiness we've known.

Beauty and truth are both internal and eternal,
it is what shapes our lives
remaining faithful and loyal
to the person we've become.

Lest we cheat ourselves.

~*~

How wise -

We do that to ourselves, don't we?
we really are a messed up and beautiful bunch, all at once, right blondie?

your words resonate with truth and beauty in your special way

powerfully written

but the last line was a standing ovation

Lest we cheat ourselves....
Yes, yes, yes, and Bravo

Those who tend to throw blame at others should read this over and over and over again...We are our own worst enemies, life is eays, we make it hard.

Tremendous write...

Bluesy...

"True beauty is the core
that lies beneath the surface,
it is the very heart of who we are
without face makeup to cover our imperfections."

Remember what old Ben Franklin said...

"In the dark all cats are gray"

So those thoughts, trapped by the jaws of deception paint, become just what the descriptive term says.... "cosmetic" in the absence of light

But not the spirit or the mind..

Those blessed (?) by what is thought beauty,
cannot compare to the loveliness of any other...It is what is below the surface that lasts, like the spirit found in poetry, that exposes an inner body that is beyond  surface beauty....like this poem shows...

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Put on the scale of life internal and external beauty seems not seem to weigh the same.
But that is an illusion.

This is so true!!
We want to know the truth, yet we may not be ready to handle the truth... It can be so harsh that it hurts our hearts. That's why we have a term called brutal honesty.

Thank you all for reading my little sermon.
This was somewhat self serving in order to rid myself of the guilt,
or at least come to terms with it anyway.
I swear, sometimes I just can't help myself from feeling.

There is a great simplicity in this wonderful expression.  We can certain confuse the outside look with the inside being.  Nicely done.  Ken

I know, its the same lines I picked out the first time.
but? there is a reason for it...

this says so much truth, and is found so much beauty in it and in you..

and you have helped me through your words come to certain terms with certain things in my own life....

and I thank you for that....
(and tried emailing you, but my email at home keeps kicking it back)

Lori?
THANK YOU FOR THIS

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....
