Why is the dark there? To make the light more noticed, It must be somewhere, Surrounding me it’s enticed, As a comfort not a scare. For tears are unseen Dripping down my horrid face, As if never been For you can’t see it this place Excepting the mind’s pretend. What’s dark’s component? Why it is nothing at all, If any is lent Then the darkness starts to fall, As mixing light is then spent. So with my dark heart I mean nothing is seen there, No one grabs a part No one enters the dark lair, Nothing remains there to start. Gloom |

Professor, For some reason I'm reminded of outer space and its darkness. There, sound doesn't appear to travel, but still we have voices and ears and can hear, given the right circumstances. I just wonder if your poem isn't the same in an abstract way. If one were to change the circumstances by taking out the verbs lent and grabs, changing them to "given", would the light still be "spent" or would it simply change its hue? What would happen in the universe, as the Verizon Man says in the background, "Can you hear me now?" By no means would I want to change this excellent poem. Poems like this are stimulating, causing one to think and ponder. Wow. Outstanding write... miscellanea |
