verse1

I'm a frustrated knight
in tarnished armour
astride a tired horse
My quest to slay
your dragons has
finally run its course
One too many failed attempts
to save the
damsel in distress
has finally destroyed
this fairy tale and
left your castle a mess

Chorus

Prince Harming is out of kisses
to wake his beauty's sleep
Robbing Hood is stealing treasure
his poor heart cannot keep
Romance is not
Sir Lancelot's
gift to Guenevere
It's Happy Never After
when there are no heroes here

verse2

My inability to save your day
is something
I can't ignore
So take this "S"
off of my chest
because I'm not super anymore
I've tilted at windmills
for far too long
my jousting days are through
If I'm unable
to save myself
how am I supposed to save you?

Chorus

Fade

"People say I should learn some self control; but I just want to exorcise my soul"

"I'm still waiting on a revelation here in Never-Never land..."

This is so good, made me want to sing along.
Truth is, we're the only ones who can save ourselves.

Then again, a little back up doesn't hurt.
Or does it?

Anyway, I enjoyed this a whole lot!
Maybe I'll make it my theme song!

this was amazing...but saving someone goes way above and beyond what anyone's expectations should be...someone cannot be saved by anyone else but themselves...no matter how much you adore them...

Tremendous write

Fairy Tales!  We are taught to believe in them...  I agree with the others, we have to get our own deck in place and rescue ourselves, well, with a little help from above...   Enjoyed this a bunch.  You're very creative.

Blues,
Thank you! I can hear the music to this one bouncing around in my head too...now, if I could just play an instrument...

Blues, LeeJ, miscellanea, Startime55
And yes, we can only save ourselves. A little back-up can't hurt but the emphasis is on "little". Some people expect you to always be there 100%; that is unhealthy and unrealistic.

Nancy,
I wish I could hear it put to music too! (LOL) Great to be back; I've missed y'all.

miscellanea,
You mentioned "Fairy Tales" - oddly enough, this poem started out as a play on the words "Happy Never After" and "Prince Harming". It only started to take on meaning for me after I reread and edited it.

Paula,
Some day your prince will come...
(sorry, couldn't resist  heh heh)
