Upon waking in Paris, the morning of Judgement Day, you shared a revelation with Bukowski, none too heavy, quiet ways like sleep speak into the ears of a sifted night. All but a few colors are in your lips, my narratives fell to the ivory, mimicking Pennsylvania skies in foggy weather. The shadows are heavier in summer, smaller than Emily's nameless kin, and thicker. Mixtures of seasons, carving our names along the bleeding cobblestones with nothing more than graphite teeth and a segment of Seperation to keep our plasma from the gutter. We never found it strange how the cafés desert themselves, and I was left alone, between the Spanish dawn with whispers of India written by your severity, driven through my palms and I am unlike Christ in my poetic stigmata. Within the occasional gasp of recognition, these secrets slip from under our hands and fall into the streets; we could never clot the blood burned into their sidewalks. I was the yellowed pages inside your books the brittle flower pressed amid tear-smudged, sanguinary words. On this note, you reminded yourself how hated little scraps of paper had become and instead, marked each unfinished line with coffee-sated thumbprints. My fingers used with purpose. Flawless is your cliché, until winter settles into our half-French bones and the sun will betray each cigarette burn left on these inexpensive sheets. I cannot hush you, curing myself on the curb as I smoke Americana blends. Neither of us will realize it as far as the next aromatic morning, but I roll off your tongue like this broken city in the spring. If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi |
