The cries, are still heard.
Screams haunt     endless
days of remembrance.

Holding tightly, the cherished
now gone, but nearer
in spirit than far.

Innocence of life,
precious moments
stolen.
No, not to be regained
Yet, out of devastation

growing stronger,
standing prouder,

knowing in our hearts
we shall remember the NYC 343
we shall not go quietly,
we shall prevail...

we shall never forget.

{remembering the heart tugs
and tears....9-11}
(for anyone who may not know the signifigance
of the NYC 343, that is the number of firefighters lost that tragic day.)

{I guess when some things are buried,
they're just bound to rise again....
even if the whole world has forgotten...
the song remembers when....Trisha Yearwood}

It seems as though the tragedy was just yesterday ~  and yet, it some ways it is as if it were in the distant past. I suppose it is that aspect of my brain that is trying to protect me that pushes unpleasant memories back so that I don't keep reliving them.

A very, VERY moving write.

Three years later and the tears have not dried and sorrow remains in our hearts.

A passionate and moving write.
Thank you!

thank you, everyone. I watched a show the other night where a special chopper was being built for a fire company in New York and this is where I learned of the 343.  It was so heart wrenching when the squad was presented with that bike...it really brings the impact that much closer to home.
I remember the day, everyday, like it was yesterday...

I believe...none of us shall ever forget...

from my heart to yours, thank you. HUGS and PEACE

These colors don't run!

Great work, Donna. There was a lot of spirit in this poem.
