Reach deep radicle, probe, stomata Suckle earth, bring forth exotic beauty. A strange God has taken you from Eden, And placed you in this foreign land. * You repeat a scene of home before my eyes, Standing naked in an odd conglomerate. What do you feel by this perversion, Exposed among these strangers? * Now nestled among Africans, Asians, Ottoman, Englishmen You seem content in your niche, Unlike humans who colonize By taking strong-arm positions; Without pain or cheek, You settle as if indigenous, To reside as if aboriginal. |

Ford, I admit, I'm not sure about your true meaning....I interpret this a couple of ways. I rather like one of my interpretations, though. I enjoyed thinking about this one a lot. ....jo |

Perhaps I should explain a little about this poem...I am a landscaper and sometimes feel uneasy about planting "Exotic" plants instead of native species....remember what happened when early Americans planted dandelions in their garden, now they are a pest all over the country, as well as is goldenrod in many parts, especially in the northheast.. -------ice ><> |

(big angel hugs) Oh Ford, I understand how you feel, dearest friend, I don't have anything against "exotic" flowers or anything and some I think are very pretty and welcome them being in the garden somewhere, but I also want the garden to look as organic as possible, without hybrid crops, without plastic trees, without pesticides! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, your heart is organic and pure as always, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "You'll find something that's enough to keep you |

A beautiful, thoughtful write. I'm always hoping people will think before they plant non-native species anywhere, especially near sensitive ecosystems. Having had to help eradicate invasive foreign plants in California, I understand this completely. |

As iliana said, though I see your point in the planting of exotics and the possible ramification, is not Kudzu one of those?, I also can read this differently, as the merging of two cultures not by force but by integration. Thanks for the thought provoking read. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Ford A very thoughtful write....I think there is much to learn from our flora friends. By the way, I love dandilions...! Good to see you posting, my friend! |

Susan, re: Kudzu yes, it is, and it grows a foot a day, as it strangles everything in its path |

Purple Loose Strife had been planted in gardens and now it over-running the countryside and the marshlands, strangling all the native plants. An fascinating write! EA |

Ford, this was a distinct pleasure to read. I saw blooming before me an orchid...among tumbleweeds. As I have often viewed myself as a "transplant" as there are times I feel I'm still searching for the right ground for my own roots. An excellent read, my friend. Thank you. |
