I met a man
in Blackbird Wood,
as twilight lit the trees,

hair like cornsilk,
smooth brown cheeks,
and eyes that echoed sea.

As I walked on
in Blackbird Wood,
he turned and walked with me.

The moon dripped gold
on midnight limbs
that trembled in the breeze.

A wilder music
than I knew
came drifting from the leaves

and he and I
trod merrily
the measure Cupid leads.

The mounded leaves
we lay upon
were soft as linen sheets,

his chest a pillow
for my head,
that thrummed a heavy beat.

His words were honey
in my ears,
his kisses just as sweet.

But shadows dimmed
across the path,
the moon passed out of sight,

and soon I found
myself alone
to face the coming light.

I found my love
in Blackbird Wood,
but lost him with the night.

I walk betimes
within the wood,
to smell its soft sweet air,

to dream of youth
an age ago,
before I learned of care,

and marvel at
my riches now,
this silver in my hair.

Pilgrimage, this is lovely.  I can also envision this put to early rennaisance music.  It has a melody about it that echoes in my ears.   ....jo

sim-sometimes dreams are all we have. Sigh.

miscellanea, thank you so much.  I love to hear it when people like what I write.

Chris, so glad you understand.

iliana, as I was writing it, I thought it might go with a lute strumming in the background.  I'm so proud that came across.

Nan,
