So the mute speak with their hands
and language takes a graphic stand
saying stay indoors for the storm cometh
batter down the shutters and be gone

and when the wind comes and peels back roofs
and the insides of trailer homes are exposed
will lifestyles of coastal people change?
as lifestyles do with heavy anti-smoking
ads
some stop inhaling the smoke
some decide to move inland
to leave the coastal blue for polaroid pic
good habits die hard
so does the need to approach destruction
external or internal
to reach headlines and popularity
to recall there were worse storms
yet we're all deceived by the calm before the storm
the stillness of the waters that wait their wake
when the wind comes to peel back roofs
and expose trailer insides...

Martin, what a deep poem, this!  Good reading and worth pondering again from a shelf in my library.  Thanks for penning it and sharing.   .....jo
