Just A Folder

It’s just a folder
and not even that, really.
Faint magnetic traces
on a spinning disk,
no more than this...

Mere traces
with your name on them,
an imaginary place
where I would put
little notes that passed
between us,
memories of things
that we had shared,
our common thoughts
and blushing revelations,
those pictures of your
new apartment,
your ocean themes
in every room
except this one...
touch-me pink
the color there
of course....

But there are no more
little notes, no sharings,
and seeing your name
there every day
no longer brings
a smile.

Still, my finger
holds off from the key.
Though you’re gone
I simply can’t
delete you.
I’ll have to let it stay
for now,
maybe forever,
if only because
it matches my heart:

empty.

Don't you dare delete that folder...
this is too tender to lose...

Such an ache to this...but wonderfully written.
Much enjoyed the sentiment here.

My friend... if you are ever an empty well, it's only a temporary situation... an artist's sacrifice for his craft... because you've poured everything you have into a beauty like this. *S*

What an incredible capture of yearn and ache... this is superb!!

I understand this- and the analogy is excellent - well written

I loved the way you spun your words together,
they truly moved me in the nicest way.
Life is like that, it keeps on keeping on,
while holding close those people we couldn't ever forget.

No, Sweet James.  The traces are spinning within the convolutions of gray matter.  This is a heart breaker... If this is fiction, it is encompassing.  If this real,
well, my heart goes out to you.  Excellent writing.

Well, Misc....like icebox said a while back, sometimes it just doesn't pay to have friends -- there's too much hurt in it when things go wrong.

James,
I'm glad to see this reach the top again, reminding me of its quality.  In rebutal to your response, I still think it's better to take a risk on friendship.  I've found that each time I've made a friend, they have added something special that I didn't have in my total composition, a complementary color, if you please.

You're exactly right, misc -- and that's how I feel most of the time....but there are times when it hurts too much, and I'm not strong enough to say the price was worth paying.
