All along the waterfront
I listen
to the calling of remorse all mixed with joy
though the sand is coarse
my feet are splendid in the soil

Can you hear the way the dark
laps up the light    at night?

I feel you in the close down of day
on the hand holding path
in park or ocean’s bend
understood and in that blend

Slowly the opening dark is jeweled
with precious doors and gates love understood
casting threads from star to earth to great unknown
and if I am gone from this small place of me awhile
you will never walk those paths alone

Your poetry, especially in this area of you that you so freely share, is among my favorites to absorb here in PIP.  They touch the very core of anyone with a sense of love, understanding, and compassion for kindred hearts.  You and your gift of writing are an inspiration to so many people on so many different levels.  It truly inspires, it heals, it wraps you up in the warmth of the human heart.  You are a gift to these pages and the people who share them.

Warm regards to you,

Kevin

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Not when one has these very words
to hold on to, and to walk that path,
with you,
even if alone.

Great imagery...

To have such a one who can literally turn the world around and help lead you to glimmer from even the darkest hours is to have a treasure beyond any possible measure.

I think I have heard this but I am sure not the way you do - how wonderfully you write the things you see hear and feel - this is just great Martie - Paul

Yes, I have heard the dark lapping up the light at night, but never again will I think of it as any other way than this.  "Shhh, listen," I shall say, "Can you hear Martie's dark lapping up the light?"

Martie,

this is perfection, as always
and YES! I know that well, it reminded
me of being at the marina . . .
the ties clanging against the posts -
the sailboats at night . . .

The waves are true;
they sort the stones,
whether large or small,
      heavy,
           light,
gold at the bottom,
weed at the top.

The biggest ones will
stand, unmoved while
wavelets stir the sand,
        sifting,
            sifting....
Our world’s a stone,
we know that too.

Where we walk,
the world of our within,
other forces lie there,
        forcing,
           splitting,
rending us asunder in
a soft pillage like time.

The worst of this is,
we make the waves.

Got me thinking, you did....though your words are the gold there at the base, mine only dross the wavelets will take.

Still, I think I'll go post this.

Who, in their right mind... would not feel
comfort from these words.  No one that I
can think of.  A beaut of a write, Martie.

to never walk alone is a beautiful thought, and you've painted it so well.  KJ

Nice Martie. I like this.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Martie, this is one of my favorites.  The poem is magical ... I even feel the waves lapping one over another.   ...jo
