Dark is the night, bleak is the landscape, within the shadow of the mountain nestled tight to it's base, a house is silent. Wind whistles coldly around the hard jagged edge of the outcrops, clouds of dark purple lour the montains summit. Daylight smudged grey by drizzle falling in slow unequal stream, grey veiling of vegetation, rippling floodwaters submerging fields. Approaching the house, grey, slightly shabby brickwork, is the facade. Grimed windows, fogged with condensation, reflect back the mountains shadow. Flaking paint and peeling, the door is warped but sturdy. Faintly rusting door knob squeaks with water, rusted by elements. Creaking, the door opens to warmth, eminating from an unseen inner force.Sweet fragrance of flowers from wild moors and citrus fruits tangy on the air. Rythmic deep sonorous tick of grandfather clock presents you to the moment, hearts beat strangely with the tick. Smooth silky feel of the sandalwood furniture, mirror sheen of the table, set with thick wholemeal bread and butter. Steaming tea, poured from ornate flowered pottery teapots. Strawberrys dusted with sugar, their succulent smell rising from their bowl. Deep stuffed chairs of warming fabric, pulled close to the roaring real fire banked with turf, glowing hues of transient colour onto faces. Turning suddenly to see the wooden window rattle with booming wind outside. Squeaking the fogged icecold pane with bare hand to view out. Murk black rain lashes down in the windgale, fiercely falling to ground so hard it dimples the mud. Silky sheen of wet land to the horizon. Lightening blue's the oak mantle, thunder echo's around the mountain, shaking the house to it's foundation and the swirling snowglobe on the warm mantletop. |
