Observations of the Exhausted Grief is permanent. It diminishes But does not vanish Proprietary, It marks for all time Momentary miseries Are no preparation For such seep of sorrow That brands to the bone Reassuring routines return After wallows In little wails But elemental changes Are evident In those emerging From grip of grief. Life is again But life is different Grief is remorseless The most piteous pleas Are just waste of breath There is no going back Before is no more Victory is simply survival Yesterday is forever Unattainable, out of reach From longing arms And tomorrow Requires new dreams But today has no dreams to offer Grief isn’t something to get over It’s something to get through |

Grief isn’t something to get over It’s something to get through very true...some days I can hold my own and on others, well the rains come. And the losses, whether of life or love are each grief-worthy on their own. By the way, I wonder if exhaustion is inevitable... well expressed, Suthern M |

jellybeans: Then I won't complain more about the writing... for my tears are small price to pay if these help you one iota. *S* Thank you so much! nakdthoughts:I think it is... our souls get tired of the marathon. *S* Thank you very much, kind lady... I wish you fewer rainy days... and sunshine soon! *S* |

"Victory is simply survival Yesterday is forever Unattainable, out of reach From longing arms And tomorrow Requires new dreams But today has no dreams to offer Grief isn’t something to get over It’s something to get through" Suthern, again, your remarkable writing truly expresses these feelings so well. ![]() |

*smiling at Sy's insightful reply* Grief isn’t something to get over It’s something to get through yeeesssssssss .... exactly I know writing from this depth comes with cost...but I also know this series had to be written as part of the healing process. one poem at time...one day at a time... we do the best we can to get "through it" I have learned from my losses that its the getting through it, that will be what pays our loved ones the highest tribute. Its what they want for us. ![]() |

vandana: Thank you! *S* Seymour: You have touched my heart, my friend... Not only do you give me wonderful words... you're the only guy reading! *S* Thank you! iliana: I was talking with a friend just yesterday about how writing poetry is a way of taking control... in midst of chaos, at least the words can be made to cooperate. *S* So yes... I know these feelings well... keep hoping the pen will drive them away. *S* Thank you! JM: Isn't he a dear? *S* And yes... that's it exactly... getting through is what we must do... otherwise we're trapped in a hell they'd never have wished for us. *S* Thank you very much! *S* |

So true....can't believe it can be stated so eloquently....there's no doubt grief is forever....but overcoming it is possible with time...I have grief, that will last forever....I just try my best not to think about it.....but it's like taxes...comes around at least once a year...sometimes more often.... |

Suthern beloved one, your writing is indescribable, I swear the truth held in each word threads all through to create what I can only describe as pure poetry. Everything you write is amazing, this is a true gift, so few writers are prepared to expose their souls in the way you do. You know I love your work, not simply because you are an outstandingly great writer, but because you are real. There’s movement in your spirit, there’s progression in your work, there’s a real feeling of reading the truth. I’m awed by your skill beloved one, truly awed, for you let me see that which IS, not what isn’t. This really is exceptional darling one, and I applaud you and forever Mushy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tomorrow is another day I don't know what it holds |

I wrote a grief poem recently.... my son told me I'd made something good from something really bad. You've done much more. You've made something excellent, from a lasting horror. Your next surge.....Reflections on Joy.....I most sincerely hope! ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Toerag: I know you know it well, my friend... thank you so much for reading and approving. *S* LeeJ: Thank you so very much! *S* GS: I think you may be the first to associate the word wisdom with my blonde self. *G* I thank you so very much... for the read and the hugs! *S* Marsha: Your applause is music to these ears, dear friend... I thank you so much! Ratleader: To have my work even mentioned next to yours is an honor, my friend... to think something positive comes from pain gives courage... I thank you so very much! *S* As for another surge... I'm rather hoping to go back to one poem at a time! LOL |

This is difficult for me to read, dealing with my own grief for a loved one who is dying. But I admire your fortitude in writing these thoughts down. I fear when the time comes, I won't be able to do it. Corinne |

I hope you are wrong. There is so much grief and it is difficult to think that it is permanent. I know that happiness isn't permanent. Maybe there is hope that grief will fade too. Kaz |

Corinne: I understand completely... and I thank you so very much for reading through your pain. *S* Kazm: Grief definitely fades... if we let it. *S* But I think it's always there... and we're never quite the same as we were before its touch... just as we never forget the magic happiness gives us. *S* Thank you so very much for reading... it's great to see you posting again! *S* Marge: I thank you for each tear, sweet lady... even as I'm sorry to have caused them. *S* |

Lady, you have written that all may see and know and in knowing, learn and grow. Would that I could take these tears from you. Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |
