Stars shone brightly above in the heavens. A night reminiscent of many others when the warmth of a fire was no longer needed and desire’s fuel lit the lamp of love
But this night, the pondering of rhyme brought a hush to a weathered face as eyes squinted into the skies...looking for a sign, some meaning to what had been written.
She never was one to mince her words or leave things hanging to sway in the breeze of questioning...so why now?
Light, river....waters? So many thoughts came to mind from this. What was the answer to this riddle...
He thought back through the myriad of moments when idle conversation disclosed so much of her heart to him. He lay there quietly, resting his head on a hand, smiling inwardly as she spoke, watching the little girl come out of hiding and wanting to play, to swing ever high into the sky, or chase a kite in teasing winds...and more, much more.
For there was a side of her he vaguely knew. A side of quiet reflection, a single word of “nothing” when asked. Those moments were ever perplexing to him. Was it here that the answer lay?
Suddenly, his heart skipping a beat or two, he knew...he knew where she was....Now, to find her and understand why the click of a door sounded so ominously in his mind. For so much silence had preceded it...
The journey would not be long....for this place, a haven left behind by her grandfather. A cabin along the seashore, about 5 miles from a lighthouse, there he would find her.
The click of his own door shutting reminding him of another. Feet crunching on a gravel drive, toward a cabin where a single light burned outside....Dusk had traveled through but a short time before....
He stood at the door, his shadow lying long on the porch....hesitant to knock. But he did not need to, for she came from behind, startling him.
"We need to talk", she said...as they walked inside....and he closed the door, the click deafening upon his ears...

The end? Hmmmm, can't be true. To end, one cannot be left wondering. Is it love? An I've been waiting for you and now you're here kind of story? Wow, this could travel so many paths. The end? Say it isn't so. Enjoyed, Barry --

Susan, I must say that I am under a great deal of duress...seems that one of your "tools" are missing from the closet and Karilea has threatened to use it on me IF I don't get off my duff and proceed smartly down the road....
Pssst! I won't tell...if you don't....and I would appreciate it if you could retrieve the "instrument" from her hands...seems they have moisturizing cream on them...and I am afraid she might slip!!!!

Dang, one heart-lurch piled on top of another- and another yet again. Your sense of suspense is merciless. Uncle, I beg. Terrific writes, all.

Barry so very...I have to admit to you that I went all backwords on this...and read this one second and then went back to where I left off...and yet! It didn't matter! It was wonderful poetry...each one holding it's own mystery and beauty. So in answer to your question....NO, NOT THE END!

" "We need to talk", she said..."
~ You are such a tease! ~ and I like that in a poet man!
"the warmth of a fire was no longer needed and desire’s fuel lit the lamp of love"
I should get Avid Reader points for reading this intriguing and romantic epopee! lol

Ok, from a letter...to a talk. Getting closer.
Though, somehow, this "we need to talk" ...
...tends to send shivers down my spine...
