I need to win the lottery So I can concentrate on poetry, I’ll move out to the country And leave the dank city And perhaps write things pretty. But the dollars are just tossed away, I only lose if I even play And end up with a poorer day And in this dismal trap I stay. I need a new night light My old burns not bright As age dims sight. I need a new vase The old has fallen from its place Maybe by a casual pass Turned to just shattered glass. These are just phantom needs Going to nowhere where wishing leads Gloom |

LOL, after I'm completely awake, I'll tell you what my first reaction was today when seeing the word "phantom." But I can tell you now, I really liked that straight-shooting ending. |

C'mon beggar...let's ride our horses... because I find myself wishing for a lot, too. |

Professor, your poetry is like a light - revealing things that you see - and so often you offer the roses that perhaps once belonged in your broken vase - for all of us to take a sniff- hope you have a nice day |

"These are just phantom needs Going to nowhere where wishing leads" Aren't goals phantom needs? One needs goals... I never could understand my grandmother's familiar quotation which Sunshine alluded to: "If wishes were horses, beggars could ride." I always wondered why everyone couldn't ride. I second Sunshine's motion, "Ride, Professor, ride!" |

Gloom "I need to win the lottery So I can concentrate on poetry, I’ll move out to the country And leave the dank city And perhaps write things pretty." Me too! I think we all wish for something magic to sweep us away to a better place...when what we maybe should do, is find the poetry in the pretty where we are. Not always easy to do. Enjoyed your poem! |
