Rings of smoke circled high Above Fred’s pipe and wise-browed eyes. Time stood still as I’d watched O’s rise And float along a summer sky, Then slowly fade and blend to clear. Fascination held my stare Until another would appear. My knees propped up, my chin to rest, Fred told me tales at my request. I watched the circles tracing lines Of patterned clouds I memorized. Ah, it pleases me seeing these Simple scenes, now memories, When I learned from him some simple pleasures: Watching smoke rings; watching weather; Listening to his Thelma’s humming To raisin oatmeals in her oven. Then quietly rocking an old cane chair A child of five, I, found peace there. The scents and sounds of love were near As I watched smoke float in sunset’s fare.

Jo, this is a remarkably shared piece of memory, I could see the scene and more than that remembered myself watching those smoke rings my stepfather made ... there was something mystical in watching them rise and dissolve .... Wonderful write. Love and hugs. Margherita ![](/pip/smiles/smile.gif)

Mmmm, yes, the simple joys of a child that we should all remember to practice as adults. I too loved to hear the stories as a child. A lovely picture you've drawn with your words, dearest jo.

Ah...to turn back the clocks of time and really pay attention this time through to the memories so wisely bestowed to us by those we once thought old ![](/pip/smiles/smile.gif)

I'm a sucker for storytellers, so when I come across a storyteller telling tales of storytellers, it's a double treat for me!
Thanks jo! ![](/pip/smiles/smile.gif)

What a wonderful vision you present...is different from my post, and every bit as charming a view. Loved your presentation very much Jo. TD
